We’re Still Holding Beer

We’re Still Holding Beer

One week ago today we lost our drummer Ted Fernandes to Pneumonia & Valley Fever. Ted’s wish was to have no fuss, no memorial service and cremation. We wish to honor Ted’s wishes and we know that he truly appreciated the time he spent playing with our little quartet for the last two years. There’s something about feeling as though you are still relevant, still have it, whatever that “it” may be. The Hold my Beer Band is comprised mainly of senior citizens, you know, old guys, boomers, so we guess it’s not unexpected for one of us to leave before the others are ready. Our youngest member will be 42 years old soon, with the other two of us at around the 70-year-old mark.

What we want to do is to honor Ted Fernandes in our own way, at our “last Saturday of every month” gig at the Ore House. We would like to dedicate that evening and our performance to Ted. We’re hoping his family can show up, but they aren’t drinkers and live in Catalina, so it’s doubtful whether that may happen. What we do know is that our previous drummer, Mark Garris will be filling in for a while, so that we may search for a permanent, (whatever that means) drummer.

So, Please help us hoist some drinks and give a shout-out to our dear departed drummer, Teddy Fernandes! Arrive early, because the place is going to be packed with well-wishers, we’re sure of it. If our comments on our Facebook page are any indication, there was a lot of Love for Ted Fernandes.

We hope to see you at the Ore House in Oracle this Saturday, May 31st from 7 to 9 pm. As always, Rocky will keep the tunes coming at you as he plays DJ.
