The Hold my Beer Band is a dynamic Arizona-based quartet delivering a rich, experienced sound deeply rooted in the Catalina and Oracle local music scenes.

Fronted by “Elder Sage” Frank Martinez on guitar and vocals alongside his son, lead guitarist Rocky Martinez, the group blends classic country and rock influences into an authentic, energetic live show. The rhythm and melody sections are driven by the adventurous, Tucson-based drummer Dave and seasoned keyboardist Ron Chilston, whose diverse background spans from classical training to playing in rock acts across the Southwest.

With decades of combined stage experience, the Hold my Beer Band brings tight musicianship and a genuine, crowd-pleasing presence to every venue they play.

Meet the Band

Frank Martinez – Guitar & Vocals

Frank’s musical roots run deep in the Catalina and Oracle areas, carrying on a family tradition that spans decades. After learning his first chords from his father, Frank quickly gained a reputation not just as a skilled guitarist, but as a standout vocalist. He cut his teeth playing with local favorites “Open Range” and later fronted his own band, “Haywire.” A career highlight for Frank was being sought out to play alongside Walter Haynes, a Pedal Steel Guitar Hall of Fame inductee. Today, he draws his musical inspiration from Merle Haggard and his own son, Rocky.

Rocky Martinez – Lead Guitar, Vocals & Sound Guru

The youngest member of the band (and Frank’s son), Rocky picked up the guitar at age 11 and never looked back. Starting out with a heavy rock background, he brings a dynamic edge to the group’s sound. While he keeps his specific musical past a bit more mysterious than his bandmates, his current playing is heavily influenced by legends like Merle Haggard, George Strait, and The Mavericks. Rocky also serves as the band’s resident sound and electronics expert.

Dave Liddicoat – Drums & Backing Vocals

Originally from Wisconsin and now based in Tucson, Dave brings an adventurous spirit and a rock-and-roll background to the rhythm section. After nailing his audition in Oracle—complete with spot-on high background vocals—he quickly became an integral part of the lineup. An avid traveler, Dave is always ready to hit the road in his motorhome, easily packing his electronic drum kit for gigs across Arizona.

Ron Chilston – Keyboard Bass/Solo Instruments via Roland Synths & Backing Vocals

Ron’s musical journey began in the early ‘60s with friendly sibling piano rivalries, eventually leading him to conduct his high school band and master a whole brass section’s worth of instruments. Before bringing his talents to the Hold my Beer Band, Ron rocked with “Free Agent” in Wyoming and “Kidd Sister” in Phoenix. Playing on Roland Juno DS88 and DS64 keyboards, he channels influences ranging from Elton John and Dr. John to Sergei Rachmaninoff. Drawing on a diverse background in radio, photography, and web development, Ron also manages the band’s bookings and digital presence.
