The weather has been beautiful lately and it looks like it’s going to be a typically sunny Spring Day so there will be a lot of folks out and about enjoying this wonderful weather. Porters is known as a destination for folks who ride bikes, side by sides and everything in-between! Arrive a bit early to avoid the rush. Put in an order for your favorite meal or appetizer then wash it all down with a beer or cocktail and get ready to dance!

We had a really great crowd show up, even at the tail end of a two-week heat wave in Az. You can’t be a sissy and live in Az in the summer. Anyway, we enjoy playing some tunes at Sue & Jerry’s Trading post with Zoomer and Buzz, both harpists. Well what do you know? They both show up and have their harps in different keys, ready to pop-up on stage and do a few tunes.

How about an informal “Battle of the Harps” our lead guitar player Rocky asked? Let’s do it! What should we play? Let’s try the standard “Route 66”. I mean, we are in Arizona, aren’t we?

Our heart-felt thanks to Zoomer and Buzz for giving a very spirited performance. Also, a big hearty Thanks to our ever-growing fan base as well. Then a special Thanks to Penney from Oracle who happened to video the performance. WARNING: she sometimes swears when she is enjoying the music.

We perform the last Saturday of every month at the Ore House Hilltop Tavern in Oracle Az from 6-8 pm. Rocky will then keep the party going while playing DJ with his extensive collection of downloaded music.

This last Saturday we played to an amazing crowd of appreciative folks at the Ore House Hilltop Tavern in Oracle Arizona. What we all forgot, perhaps, was that this was also rodeo weekend in Tucson. We saw a crowd unlike any other that evening and the folks who were able to show up early and grab a seat were very appreciative! It was a “human carwash” type of evening where if you had to go to the restroom, or get another drink . . . you had to move through a corridor filled with folks. Thankfully, they’re all friendly and having a great time.

We’re always thankful for the large outdoor patio that is available most of the year. Lucky for all of us, the amazing snow storm arrived early the next morning, so the temperature outside was actually very comfortable. There are portable heaters outdoors as well, so the owners made sure that a few of them were lit as folks would go outdoors to smoke a cigarette or simply to escape the growing crowd indoors.

Hopefully by next month, when we play again on Saturday, March 25th from 6-8 at the Ore House, we will be graced with wonderful Spring type weather so we can setup outdoors and play. On a side note, if you do arrive a little late and only catch the end of our live sets, Rocky keeps the party going by acting as DJ and getting you folks out on the dance floor!

So, anyway, while perusing the old internet, we stumbled on this cartoon clip, reported to be the first known usage of the phrase “Hold my beer”. Well, it works for us, but maybe we need to look into a trademark for that phrase? Or, maybe it’s already been trademarked! Stay tuned folks. You ain’t heard the last of this one!

Whoops! Maybe we shouldn’t ask you to hold our beers! We’re still lookin’ for some photos or videos of us playing our last gig of 2022 on Friday, December 30th @ the Ore House Hilltop Tavern in Oracle Az. We may have to check our FacePlant thing-a-ma-bobby and see if anyone has tagged #holdmybeerband. It could happen, right? Anyhoo, we have a feeling we may be asked back to perform at the Ore House, so maybe you should come back and check our gig calendar often!

Heck, there are three out of the Hold My Beer Band members that are retired! The music is something that we’ve always enjoyed yet knew that a full-time job is necessary in order to afford being a musician. (Only musicians will get that inside joke . . . or is it?) Anyway, we’re also pleased to announce that we’ve added a drummer/percussionist to the mix! We’re enjoying our practice sessions a bit more now that the whole time-keeping scenario has changed for all of us. It’s on the drummer now!

We would truly enjoy inviting all of our fans but unfortunately, that’s not in the cards on this gig. But there will be other gigs in other spots so stay tuned!

Our keyboard player lived in Jerome for 16+ years so he has knowledge of the area and the spots that we can potentially play music in Yavapai County. It’s a long drive from Oracle, but well worth it to experience the charm of what was termed the “Wickedest City in the West” at one point in its history.

There are many things to see and do in Jerome at this time of year. There are Ghost Tours, a Ghost Town & Mine and shopping, of course! We would like to point out that there are no bad places to eat in Jerome. It all depends on what it is that you’re looking for. A friendly tip: if you see a parking spot in Jerome, you better take it then walk wherever else you need to go because October is just plain BUSY!
